What is the Forest of Love

The Forest of Love is the only online virtual forest where anyone can carve a symbol of their love into a virtual tree. By simply signing up and selecting a few options you can create a completely customized tree for you and your loved one, a novel way to express your love with a flair of true romance.

Our goal here at the Forest of Love is to give those who truly love someone a simple, interesting, and free way to express that love without jumping through hoops or signing up for spam and junkmail. In return we get another tree in our forest and one more affirmation that love is the greatest emotion of all.

Once you sign up to plant and carve your tree here in the forest, you'll be able to pick from several different species, many types of symbols, and different font sizes. You'll then be able to enter your initials and those of your loved one into our system. We'll create and carve your virtual tree to your specifications. You can also add some personal information about yourself, your loved one, or your tree that we'll show on your tree's very own page on our site. If you choose, you can make this personal information private so that only those you choose will be able to view it... though everyone will be able to enjoy your tree.

Once your tree is planted and carved to your satisfaction, you can notify your loved one, or even your friends, that you've planted a tree with us. This is all done from your account page. You can generate e-mails to them, get some graphics to link to your tree, or even print your tree's portrait. Yes, that's right. You can print your tree's portrait, almost like a certificate, that gives some information about your tree and has a nice picture of your tree. All of this is free, and all you need to do is create an account and set up your tree. So, what are you waiting for?

The Story of the Forest

The Forest of Love was an original idea thought up in the Winter of 2006 by Ed Zenisek, the owner and creator of the Forest of Love. He was driving home from an evening with his girlfriend when he began to wonder just how he could adequately express his feelings without spending a great deal of money. Ed felt as though he needed something simple, yet romantic. He tried to think of something that would be meaningful and a little fun without being incredibly sappy or even childish. Thinking about this made him realize that the thing he was looking for had almost certainly been done already... and that's when it hit him. A tree carving, a symbol of love so simple yet powerful that its very sight is iconic in romantic and dramatic culture, was the perfect way to express his feelings. Unfortunately it was the middle of winter, and he had no idea where he would find an adequate tree to carve.

While pondering this thought, he began to formulate the idea of the Forest of Love... a virtual forest where anyone can carve their virtual tree at any time, from anywhere. Even on the coldest of winter nights or in the densest urban jungle any person with a computer and a phone line could get online and carve their virtual tree. The more he thought about this the more excited he became. Once home, he immediately looked up the domain name - ForestofLove.com - and fount it to be available. Within minutes it was registered and the creative process could begin.

The Forest, however, would need to wait. Real life stepped in and shut the door on this site for a time. From the winter of 2006 to the summer of 2007 the Forest lay dormant, only a small idea brooding in the back of the mind. Ed lost his girlfriend during this period, he also lost his job, and his will to write and create. Without that will, the Forest could not become a reality. The spark which had ignited the idea was now gone from his life, and his faith in love diminished.

It was during this time in his life when Ed realized that the only way things would turn around and get any better was to pick himself up, dust himself off, and move on. He did that by relocating to a different area of the country, being closer to the family who loved him, eventually finding a career, and getting things back on track better than ever. One of the largest parts of that picking up and dusting off was writing and designing this site and, in doing so, realizing a lost dream.

The Forest of Love is dedicated to all of those who truly love another human being in this world and give of themselves in the many ways it takes to make love work and grow. It is dedicated to the idea that love is the most powerful emotion, and as such is deserving of our attention and acknowledgement... even if it is in such a small way as carving a virtual symbol into a virtual tree on a small website somewhere on the vast network of computers we call the Internet. True love is seemingly rare, yet plentiful enough that it can be found in most everyone at one time or another. It is that which we strive to showcase here at the Forest of Love, and why we're so very proud of all our trees.

We encourage you to create a tree for your loved one and spread the love by encouraging others to do the same. The more trees we have the more love we can share, and if this world needs anything right now... it's a little bit of love.
