Babe, over the past six months, my heart has only grown fonder of you. I wanted to plant this tree in symbol of the love and passion that I have for you.
The tree we planted was Black Walnut. On the bark of this tree, I have carved a 'perfect' heart, and chiseled our initials into it. Between our initials, I added this Yin Yang symbol.
While it may all seem random, I chose every detail carefully and thoughtfully. I chose the black walnut tree because it was the longest living tree available, and was also one of the few fruiting trees. By coincidence, it is also a tree native to Texas. While many relationships last only months or a few years, I both want for, and believe that, ours will last for longer than a lifetime. There is no one Id rather spend my time and my happiness with, and I want to make you as happy as you make me. The fruiting of the tree represents all of the experiences and memories we will create, over long periods of time, and over short periods of time. The good and the bad. They all make us who we are and make our relationship stronger.
So why did I choose the 'perfect' heart, over the chiseled, crosscut, or 'no' heart? Simple, really. Because you are my perfection, and I think our love is perfect for each other. I have never felt the way I feel about you about anyone else, and I never think I will again. My love for you is as unique as you are to the world.
Why are our initials chiseled, instead of cut with a hatchet or pocketknife? Because the pocketknife initials are sloppy, something we will never be. The hatchet initials are just that, cut with a hatchet. Not precise, not accurate. A chisel on the other-hand, is very clean and very precise. Everything is the way it is meant to be. We are meant to be, we aren't together just to have someone to call ours. Were together because we belong together, because my heart needs to be with yours.
Finally, the Yin Yang. I chose the yin and yang because it means something. While some of the other symbols are male or female dominant, or male over female, or female over male, I didn't want that. Yin and Yang are opposites that attract, but also because they are equal. Neither one of us is greater than the other, we are both equal in this relationship, as it always should be. Both of our opinions matter, both of our feelings matter, we are both equally important. And if I do say so, I think we attract rather well.
